An Introduction To Bestival
Bestival is a self styled boutique music festival held towards the end of summer each year on the Isle of Wight. This years it is to be held from the 9th – 12th September 2010. Rob Da Bank organised the first Bestival nine years ago and is still one of the main forces behind the festival. The Prodigy, The Flaming Lips and Dizzee Rascal will all be headlining at the event. From indie heavy weights like Mumford and Suns to pop sensations like Ellie Goulding, this festival has always promised to have something for everyone.
Bestival itself is famous for much more than simply the music on offer. It has a great love of dressing up. Each year holds a different theme and this year’s theme is anything fantasy and fantastic. This year you’ll find a designated area to assist with your dressing up full of all things fantasy. The festival has also attracted attention for other things besides its music and love of dressing up. If you fancy getting married at the festival there’s an inflatable church licensed for marriages. Its attitude to the environment is also anything that sets it apart from other festivals. From recycle bins dotted all around the campsites to their promise that everything physically possible is recycled. It promotes the available ferry services and advocates public transport. If you’re adamant you want to drive you’ll be asked to consider partaking in a car sharing scheme.
The festival itself has a more bohemian atmosphere than many in the UK. The location of Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight was chose for a specific reason. The peaceful island was chosen because of the serene beauty around it. Bestival is also known for offering a wider selection in genre acts and not just focusing on a certain genre. Although founder Rob Da Bank is a self confessed music junkie, this festival is about so much more than the offering of great artists.
