Beginners Piano Lessons – Creating A Learning Environment!

Learning the piano is a serious business, with hopefully some fun along the way. If you have found beginners piano lessons that suit you, it’s time to sit down, relax, and start out on what will be an amazing journey. Yes, the road will be tough at times, but sheer willpower and persistence does pay off, and allow you to begin enjoying yourself. So, now you have gone to the trouble, and expense, of taking proper lessons, you need to think about one more important aspect – your learning environment.

You want to give yourself the best chance of success. Therefore, consider seriously where you are going to learn. Just as any successful businessman runs an efficient workspace, you need an environment conducive to learning, such as a room where you will not be disturbed, and just as importantly, where you won’t disturb others. Make sure you have ample lighting, so you can see the keys and any sheet music clearly. You should also feel comfortable here – the temperature must be right for you.

What about your keyboard choice? When taking beginners piano lessons, whilst these may be geared to the piano, there are also many electronic keyboard options. Mastering a piece of music on a synthesizer, for example, becomes really exciting as you can experiment with different voices. If using an electronic keyboard, however, make sure it has touch sensitivity, as you will need this to give expression to your playing as you proceed. The ability to add foot pedals will come in handy too, as this is sure to form part of your piano, or keyboard, tuition, as you progress.

You may need a keyboard stand, depending on your choice of instrument. Make sure this is sturdy, and adjustable. Don’t overlook the importance of what you are sitting on, too. A comfortable piano stool, or seat, is vital. Let’s face it, if you are going to be taking your practice seriously, you will spend considerable time sitting down, and this part of your body needs to feel as at ease as the rest. Your stool, or seat, should ideally be adjustable, so that, as you sit at the keyboard, your waist can be level with the keys.

Finally, why not make a simple sign for your door? When I was training, I put a “Do Not Disturb, Genius At Work” sign up – this way, everyone knew that I was out of bounds at this time. It helps not only you, but also your family, to take your hobby seriously.

Some of these key aspects can easily be overlooked in the adrenaline rush of finding the correct beginners piano lessons, and wanting to play immediately. Just take a little while to prepare your environment and the learning that follows will be all the better for it.
